President's Message

2010 HIT-GTA Executive Board Newsletter

Dear Alumni,

Happy New Year. I hope this is not too late for 2010 and certainly it is not late for the Chinese New Year, the Year of Tiger. I cannot believe that it has been another year. We thank you all for your support to HIT-GTA Executive Board in the past 2009. The past year has been filled with numerous challenges and accomplishments.

All executive members have young families. We are aged between 30’s to 40’s. That means we are taking more responsibilities both at work and home. Some of us are taking important roles at work. We found it difficult to work full capacity to meet the expectations anticipated for us to serve this community. However, we successfully managed to a number of things.

First, we successfully hosted the summer picnic as usual in July 2009. Photos are on our website.
Second, we successfully co-hosted the winter curling game and a number of us participated in Nov 2009. All of us had so much fun. We think that we can actually call an official HIT-GTA alumni event sometime next year. Again, photos are on www.hit-na.org.

Third, our hit-na.org website faced a challenge because of the server upgrade in the hosting company (we thank our committee member Mr. Yao, Da Ming for his support to host our website during the past several years). Now the beta version of our website is up and running. Although it still takes some time to make all features working, it will not be long when you can register as a member of this community and search for your friends and even participate in the discussions and information sharing through our own Blog. We will keep your information confidential. That is why we will not pass your private information to any third party even to our HIT Alumni Association back in Harbin China.
Fourth, but not the last. We will host a winter gathering on the 27th of Feb 2010 when a HIT delegation is coming to visit and meet with us. This is another opportunity for all of us to meet again in winter. Details have been put up on our website and Dr. Shan, Jin Jun is coordinating with you for this event. Hopefully we will see you all there.

In 2010, HIT will celebrate its 90th anniversary and we will celebrate our 10th anniversary as an oversea HIT alumni community. I am deeply proud of all that we have achieved together over the past 10 years. None of this would have been possible without the dedication and talent of HIT alumni, especially those volunteers. For this purpose, we list all the past and current executive members on our website. I hope that their effort can be recognized and appreciated. There are many many other volunteers we are also grateful for their help and support. We need more volunteers.

As we prepare for the Chinese New Year and our winter gathering, I ask that you take the time to reflect on your accomplishments – and take the time to celebrate – the achievements of HIT-GTA.
May this season be a happy and safe one for all, and may 2010 be filled with happiness and good health for you and your loved-ones!
-Dr. Hou, Ming
